Fun is a good way to describe this film. It is a fun imaginative family film with good comedy, gorgeous animation and a story enough to keep the adults watching. Although it does not have an intricate or slightly complex plot, it still serves as a somewhat of a homage to the classic monster movies. DreamWorks are good at making animated films with great stories and this may be of weaker par, but it is good enough. The comedy is brilliant, the animation is spectacular and the characters are wholesome, the things that make animated films entertaining.
When human-hating aliens disrupt earthbound cable-television signals, it is up to a monster-hunting superhero to take out the annoying extra-terrestrials and ensure that television viewers are not deprived in this animated adaptation of the popular comic-book series.
There are many DreamWorks films that I am not a fan of, such as “Shrek the Third” and “Madagascar 2” but this one is still a funny and charming animated film. The story is very simple and very brief, but very sweet. The problem the story has is it lacks a little bit of originality, as much of a homage it is it does not bring much new to things.
There was an excellent voice cast backing up the characters. Playing Susan is Reese Witherspoon, Hugh Laurie as Dr. Cockroach, Seth Rogen as B.O.B and even a little cameo from Renee Zellweger in one of the film’s hilarious moments. The voice acting was solid and that is all there is to it.
The animation is undoubtedly spectacular, flamboyant and vibrant and it gives the film it's universe. It may not have the strength of “Toy Story” or even they are own “Shrek” but it holds strong with great animation and a good plot, although not that good. There are plenty of jokes in here, homages and just plain humour. B.O.B is hilarious and I will admit, he is the funniest boneless character I have ever seen.
Kids will love it; teenagers are likely to dislike it and the same with adults. I give this film mercy for having plenty of good humour and while it's plot is not totally original, it is wholesome and entertaining. This is a good animated family feature that plays out as an ultimate homage to the classic monster/Sci-Fi movies of the past. IT can be fun for your first viewing, though I am not sure about watching it again.
My Rating: 7/10
