Genre: Sci-Fi, Horror
Runtime: 90 Minutes
It is hard to believe that the sequel is slightly better than the first, but truly, it says nothing. This film still lacks excitement and characters, which makes it a boring experience. Once more are robotic/stop-motion puppet-pals are out to destroy with some slightly improved effects but plenty of mediocre happenings. The acting is lousy and the plot is brainless. A new director being David Allen has taken over here, but does no better a job. “Puppet Master 2: His Unholy Creations” is nothing more than an ’Unholy Creation’.
The supernaturally animated demonic puppet creations of a mad puppeteer spring back to life in hopes of reanimating their master with an ancient Egyptian formula that utilizes brain serum in this boring horror thriller.
The acting is not as bad as the previous film but still lies flat. Some of the characters are intensely boring and the acting in the scenes were the puppets were acting were terrible. In one scene we have the farmer’s wife whose husband just got killed by that stupid puppet with a drill on it’s head and screams once, not even a loud one either. She backs away into another room and grabs a shotgun. She is less scared than you would expect a sudden widower. Anyway, she goes after the puppets but they get her. It is probably the most believable killing from all the deaths up until now in the series but it still was badly executed.
The character puppet master here looks like a bad rip off the invisible man, but his accent was quite interesting. Yet his character was empty. We also have a new puppet to the story, a somewhat German soldier who has a flame-thrower as an arm and bullets for teeth. It is another great looking puppet that seems at least a little intimidating unlike most of the others.
One thing I couldn’t help but notice is half the time when one of the female characters is being killed, they fall over. It seems too much an excuse for them to be defenceless, and even then, it is a stupid because they are as I said in the previous review, 12 inches tall!
In one of the badly done killings, a woman is cut on the leg causing her to fall. She gives a small scream and then the puppets surround her, yet she just sits there doing nothing! Then they tie her up and drag her away and so easily too! That is one of the many crappy scenes in the film.
Another thing that was idiotic was every time the humans try to stop the puppets. All they do is bang it against something and run. The smart thing to do would be to destroy it to pieces, but no, the film is not that smart. However, if the puppets were destroyed, there would be no more sequels (which would have been better).
|The Size of his head always makes me laugh.|
Now I think the idea of killer puppets is cool, absurd as it is it's a pretty interesting idea. Unfortunately the idea was in the wrong hands. “Puppet Master 2” is another terrible sequel, but to no true premise of goodness. The pace of the story is once again boring. There is no tension, minimum suspense and because of the bland story, you will struggle to finish the film. With flat acting and a dead pace, it is a film you should avoid.
My Rating: 3/10
