My 50 Favourite films IN ORDER (As of April 2012)

Before you plow down my list, read this first. Although I have a page of my all time favourite films on here, I have not made an ordered list of my favourites in my entire time on the blog. I have wanted to explore more cinema before making a solid list, and even posting this one I think it'll be many more months and movies before I get a very solid list. My top five choices I love almost equally, but I chose a title that has very much influenced and interested me in cinema. I am yet to watch some of the acclaimed films floating in the world of film, but here is my list of favourites IN ORDER from what I have seen in my lifetime (which by now is about 900-1000 films). Please comment and give me feedback.

  1. Excellent list Thomas! Personally, I'd put Psycho a lot higher (currently at #4) and Fight Club a bit lower. However, oddly enough, we both have Chicago in the exact same slot. I love quite a few of those films and I need to see quite a few of them as well.

  2. Good selection. Quite a bit of them are my favorites as well. 'Bout 22 of them. Pretty soon, I'm going to do a video on my top 20 favorite films and my reasons why they are my favorites. You should check it out when I actually do it.

  3. Liking your list, and we share a lot of the same films you've got featured here! I definitely agree that it is a hard task to whittle down the amount of films that you've seen to create a list like this, particularly for avid film-watchers (who tend to be film lovers) who've seen a fair share of films in their time!

A lot of these lists keep popping up on my feed actually, reminding me that I need to update my list after about 7, nearly 8 months since I published it.

I have to take another look at American Beauty and figure out why it keeps appearing on Top 10 lists!

  5. I think I might do a quarterly-year update on my top 50. In the summer or something I'd like to make a very large list- an equivalent to the IMDBtop 250. I will be sure to look at your list!

  7. Typically I just read a lot of films I really should have included on my list! - Spirited Away being a pretty key one - good choice - oh well...!

  8. Very nice list! I love to see Casino so high up, it's very underappreciated.

  9. It's Scorsese's masterpiece next to Taxi Driver if you ask me! Thanks :)

  10. Very interesting list! And some more contemporary films which are always refreshing to see in a top list like this. Personally, Taxi Driver is my number 1 film. Modern Times is also in my top 5 but I find it more and more difficult to list films when I discover films for the first time. Like lately I've seen Peeping Tom, Josef Von Sternberg's films, and many other films I really loved... This is a very hard exercise!

  11. Taxi Driver is an excellent number one choice. I would say I enjoyed it slightly more than Godfather. As I said, i twas difficult choosing. And same here. American Beauty I've known for no more than 11 days, but the film sustained my interest start to end and it was a true statement of life.

  12. Good list. I've seen most of these. While I don't have as strong a liking for a few of them, I can certainly see how others would.

  13. Mithil Bhoras: Yes, Stanley Kubrick is one of my all-time favorites... Even this film is one of the greatest ever!
